About

The Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is one of the Allied Orders of the Grand Army of the Republic. The Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and Allied Orders are the officially recognized successors of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), a fraternal order founded by Union veterans after the Civil War.

The Department of Ohio consists of 5 Auxiliaries scattered across the State. Our mission today is commemorative, historical and ceremonial. We strive to assist the Sons of Union Veterans in keeping alive the memories of our ancestors and their sacrifices for the maintenance of the Union, to aid in caring for helpless and disabled Veterans, and to properly observe Memorial Day.

Preserving history and promoting ideals of patriotism is as relevant today as it was in the years 1861-1865.  Our growing membership consists of a wide range of backgrounds, professions and ages. Some members of our Auxiliaries are genealogists, others enjoy Civil War history, or collect Civil War memorabilia. We all share a love for our ancestors and relatives who gave to their country, that we should continue to be “One Nation Under God”.
